Ljubljana, Slovenia
Leaving Zagreb was interesting. The reception was not open when we woke up and it was not open when we were ready to leave the place. We had already given our keys to a nice Japanese girl who would have returned them for us when the receptionist finally showed up, like two hours late... We did get out but we were pretty annoyed because of the guy. He had already pissed us off the day before so when he had not showed up... Well, use your imagination. Going to Ljubljana was wonderful. Nice train ride following the river, very good views. Finding hostel was easy which was really nice. And the beds are somewhat interesting, a huge kind of block in the middle of the room. But spacious and otherwise fine, though the pillow is horrible. On Sunday, we once again sat on a bench, this time eating ice cream. And some guys came asking if we knew if there is a park somewhere. Yes, I am really Slovenian after spending seven hours in this city... Guess we looked so locals. At least the weather was beautiful, unlike it has been lately. Yesterday we checked all the tourist attractions, the castle including. We took a funicular ride to the hill, walking to the Citadell in Budapest was enough. And we tried reading a newspaper in Slovenian because we were desperate to find out the Wimbledon winner. We guessed it right because the pictures gave a pretty good hint, but we had to check. And then we had a I would like to jump and scream because Nadal won but I will not do it while standing in the middle of the street -moment. It is such a shame we missed the final because it would have been so great. Maybe in another life... And then we fixed our travel plans in Italy. Decided not to stay in Venice because it is impossible to get a sleeping place but instead we are going to Florence tomorrow. Or, actually we are going to Villach tomorrow and then to Florence, but who cares... And we have the most expensive sleeping place of the entire trip in Milan. It costs us a small fortune, but then again, we never had a proper budget after all. And we have some ideas of places we want to visit. They are not all the most common places for people on Interrail, but our trip has been so odd. And we had nice time eating out last night - not. The pasta was okay when we finally got it after waiting. Then it started raining. And it was a huge thunder storm. Lightnings and way too much water. We were eating inside the restaurant, but it still had like 5 cms of water on the floor. And running back to the hostel and being soaking wet after that... Shower did good. Something to tell the grandchildren... Today it has been raining, we did get wet again when we went to buy some breakfast. And we did shop. Something else than postcards. Shirts and flip-flops. So much for the budget. And books. We ended up in a huge bookstore with a decent selection of English books and spend an hour in there. But we did not find a textile marker we were looking for. Instead we found albums of Finnish bands in a department store. It was like, oh a yellow Magic Recoveries, check there is a Sonata Arctica album. And some Mando Diao. Way too much fun. Tomorrow we will be in Villach and then it is time for the adventure in Italy. Do not look too eager for more posts until I get home, because finding a computer that actually co-operates might be a bit difficult. We can just hope for the best. And hope that we get home when we are supposed to, because there might be a strike in Italy at that time. Things are getting interesting...
